Birahimpur is a small village in the Sylhet Division, to the North-East of Sylhet city in Bangladesh.  The village has a population of approximately 800. In this underdeveloped village, there are many challenges.

Extreme seasonal changes mean that there is a lack of food security throughout the year.  In the dry season, growing crops is difficult and when the rainy season arrives, any crops that have not been harvested may be washed away.

Lack of finances in the village’s households meaning no way to purchase food or carry out essential repairs to houses when needed. Lack of local employment leads to absentee fathers and husbands when they leave, not just the village, but the country to seek work. There is no access to clean water. During the dry season, the same stagnant pond water is used for all personal hygiene and household duties.
