The villagers’ most urgent needs are food and shelter.

Since a large number of households in the village have no income through unemployment, it is not possible for families to buy food. Many of the villagers are homeless, in temporary shelters or renting unsuitable accommodation such as sheds or garages.

​For the four months each year of the rainy season, raingear is desperately needed. However, houses are often so small or ill-equipped that there is nowhere to store unused rain clothes and no means to look after them for the rest of the year.
